Offline Factory Reset Process in WeGuard
The Offline Device Reset Token feature in WeGuard allows administrators to securely perform a factory reset on an Android device even when it is not connected to the internet.
Each enrolled device is automatically assigned a unique reset token, which is available in the WeGuard Admin Portal. If a device must be reset while offline, the administrator can provide this token to an authorised user.
The device validates the reset token locally, ensuring that only approved users can initiate the factory reset without requiring network connectivity.
After the reset is completed and the device is re-enrolled, a new reset token is automatically generated and assigned.
Offline Device Reset Procedure
Step 1: Admin Retrieves the Offline Reset Token
- Log in to the WeGuard Console.
- Navigate to Devices and select the required device.
- Under Actions, locate the Offline Reset Token at the bottom of the mobile image.
- Click the Eye Icon to reveal the unique Token ID. Then, securely share this ID with the device user.
Step 2: Initiate Reset on the Device.
Once the user has the token, they can begin the local reset process.
On the Android device, navigate to Settings from the bottom-right corner.
- Enter the device's unique token ID, then click OK.
If the token is valid, the device will get a factory reset. If the token is invalid, the reset will be blocked, and an error message will be displayed.
Step 3: Device Re-setup and Re-enrollment
After the reset, the device will return to its "out-of-the-box" state and must be set up again.
Android Zero Touch (ZTE): Devices enrolled via Zero Touch will automatically re-enroll into WeGuard during the initial setup flow once a stable internet connection is established.
Manual Methods: Devices originally enrolled via QR code or AFW must be re-enrolled manually by the user or admin.
