iOS Device Removal and Unenrollment Guide
IT admins need to delete devices from the organization that are no longer in use or no longer supported. To streamline this process, WeGuard provides the option to remove the MDM with or without resetting the device.
This document explains how to:
- Unassign and release the device from ABM
- Remove the WeGuard MDM without resetting the Apple devices
- Remove the WeGuard MDM by resetting the Apple devices
Each step is outlined in a detailed procedure.
WeGuard ensures that the device unenrolling process is as smooth as the enrollment process.
Unassigning/Releasing the iOS device from the Apple Business Manager account.
Unassign the MDM Server
This option will ensure that the device remains available in ABM for future use.
The admin can reassign the MDM server to the device later.
Release the Device from the Organization
This option will remove the device from ABM completely, making it unavailable for future MDM assignments.
If needed, admins can re-add the device using Apple Configurator or by contacting Apple Support.
Steps to Unassign the MDM Server
Go to Devices
- Search for the device using the serial number of the device you want to unassign and select it.
- Select Edit next to the Edit MDM Server option.
- Choose Unassign to remove the device from the current MDM server. Click OK to confirm.
- This will unassign the current MDM server from the device.
Steps to Release the Device:
Deleting the Device with/without Factory Resetting the device
- Click on the three dots under Actions and select Delete.
- Click on Delete and select options based on your requirements:
- Reset
- Remove Only MDM Profile
Reset: This will erase the device, allowing you to re-enroll it or set it up as normal.

Note: Ensure the end user backs up any important data before proceeding with the reset.

Remove Only MDM Profile: This will remove WeGuard and its related data (applications, restrictions) without effecting device data and without resetting the device.
Removing MDM by Resetting the iOS device

Result: The device will now get Factory reset and will start as a new device.
For Removing MDM Profile without Resetting iOS device

Result: Now the WeGuard profile will get automatically removed from the device along with it's data, Apps, and Restrictions without effecting the personal data. Now, user can use the device as a normal device.
Conclusion: Now the devices are removed from the current MDM or Released from the ABM as per the business requirement.
