Configuring Location (GPS) Settings on Android Devices

Administrators can remotely manage location (GPS) settings on Android devices via the WeGuard Console. By setting the location status to ON, OFF, or NONE, organizations can ensure compliance with security policies while optimizing operational efficiency for field personnel.

Location Policy Options

Policy SettingDescription

Location OFFLocation services are strictly disabled. End users are restricted from enabling GPS.
Location NONENo restriction is applied. End users have full control to toggle Location ON or OFF as needed.

Step-by-Step Configuration

Follow these instructions to modify the Location settings for your managed fleet:

  • Log in to your WeGuard Console.

  • Navigate to Policies and click on the specific policy you wish to update.

  • In General navigate to the Location Settings section and click to expand the options.

  • Choose the appropriate setting (Location ON, Location OFF, or NONE) based on your organizational requirements.

  • Then click Save and Review Changes and select Confirm and Save.

Key Considerations

  • Battery Consumption: Keeping Location ON at all times may impact device battery life; consider this for long-shift operations.

  • Compliance: For tracking or geofencing features to work accurately, ensure the policy is set to Location ON.

  • Real-time Updates: Once saved, the policy update is sent immediately. Devices must be online to receive and apply the new GPS restriction.
