Why is it necessary to set up an APNs certificate in WeGuard?
  1. Configuring an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) certificate in WeGuard Mobile Device Management (MDM) is essential for the effective management of iOS devices within the MDM environment. The APNs certificate plays a key role in establishing a secure and dependable communication channel between the WeGuard MDM server and iOS devices.
What is the duration of validity for the APNs certificate?

  1. The APNs certificate remains valid for a period of one year from the date of its generation.

What happens if the APNs certificate is not renewed before its expiry?

  1. New Enrollments: Attempting to enroll new devices will result in failure.
  2. Connection Issues: The connection between existing iOS devices and WeGuard will also fail.

Note: It is essential to renew the APNS certificate before its expiry date. Failure to do so will lead to the generation of a new APNS certificate, requiring device re-enrollment due to the change in certificate from the previous one.

Is it necessary to renew my APNs certificate, or can I obtain a new one?

  1. It is crucial to renew your existing APNs certificate rather than requesting a new one. This involves using the same Apple ID and renewing the certificate through Apple's site. Opting for a new certificate instead of renewing the existing one will compel you to unenroll and re-enroll all your current iOS devices. 

How can I determine if my APNs certificate is nearing expiration?
  1. Apple typically sends email notifications to the Apple ID that initiated the certificate request 30 days, 10 days, and 1 day before the expiration date. Additionally, you can check the certificate expiration dates in the WeGuard Settings. Navigate to Settings (Cog Wheel icon> select Settings from dropdown) > Apple > APNS certificate and you'll find the expiration date and time listed under the "Expiration" section.

If I possess multiple APNS certificates, how can I identify the one requiring renewal in the Apple Push Certificates Portal?

  1. To determine the correct certificate for renewal, follow these steps on an enrolled iOS device
    1. Navigate to Settings > General > Device Management > Management Profile > More Details > Management Profile > Under "Topic," you will find a unique GUID.
    2. Match this GUID to the corresponding certificate in the Apple Push Certificates Portal.

How can I update the Apple ID associated with my current APNs certificate?
  1. Once a certificate has been requested using a specific Apple ID, it's not possible to renew that certificate using a different Apple ID. However, Apple support may be able to help you associate a new Apple ID with your existing certificate, allowing you to renew it using the updated credentials.
