How to Renew APNS, DEP and Apps & Books Certificates?

Configuring an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) certificate, Device Enrollment Program (DEP) certificate, and Apps and Books certificate in Mobile Device Management (WeGuard MDM) is crucial for managing iOS devices effectively within the MDM environment. The APNs certificate plays a key role in establishing a secure and reliable communication channel between the MDM server and iOS devices. During the device enrollment process, the APNs certificate is used to authenticate and establish a secure connection between the MDM server and the iOS device. Whereas DEP Certificate ensures that devices are synced within the WeGuard from ABM, so that devices undergo Enrollment. Apps and Books certificate is to sync the purchased apps from the ABM into WeGuard.

Important Points to be remembered:
  1. The APNs, DEP and Apps & Books certificates remains valid for a period of one year from the date of its generation.
  2.  It is essential to renew the APNS certificates before its expiry date. Failure to do so will lead to the generation of a new APNS certificate, requiring device re-enrollment due to the change in certificate from the previous one.
  3. If the APNS certificate is not renewed, the devices may require a factory reset. If a factory reset is disabled through policy, the admin will need to visit an Apple store to have the devices reset.
