System Applications:
These are the applications that come with the device by default. However, default system applications differ with different OEMs.
Custom or 3rd party Applications:
These applications are specific to organization and won’t be published in the Play Store.
Play Store Applications:
Through WeGuard, Play Store can be accessed and apps can be pushed to devices as long as device and app are compatible with each other.
This article further explains adding system applications to policy
When the device is activated, all default system applications from the device are identified and cataloged which are displayed on the web interface. To view default system applications of the device, go to Devices > Selected Device>Device Details > Applications > System Application. (Pl refer to below picture)
When you browse to the Application tab, you will see, “Enterprise Applications” section which are custom or 3rd party applications that you would have added for your devices. Obviously, this will appear empty if you have created a completely new account. In the next section i.e. “System Applications” all default applications are shown. As said before, default system apps differ with OEMs.
In Kiosk and Work Managed policies, system apps are not enabled. In case any specific system apps are to be added to device, follow below steps.
Click on a policy, In this case we pick 'Default Android Kiosk'.
Go to App Management > System Apps. Click on + icon to add system application.
Click on “Show available apps”.
Search/Filter with app name or package name, select the apps and click on “ADD” icon (refer #3). In the below screen, the example taken is native dialer (phone) application.
After Clicking on the add icon, it will navigate you back to the system apps page where you can view selected system apps. Now click on the “Save and continue” button to add the apps onto the device.
You should see Phone app on your device/s.
Now let’s go through the process of adding default system app from “Add new system app”
As mentioned earlier all system application will be listed Device > Selected Device> Device Details > Application > System Application
You can do Ctrl+F and search for the application you would like to add to the device.
Example, let’s take Contacts. Do a Ctrl+F and type in Contacts. There might be several system applications that support contacts apps. Identify the right app to be used.
Make a note of the package name (also called App ID). In this example it is: com.samsung.android.contacts
Now to go to System Application section in policy as mentioned earlier and click on “Add New System App”.
Enter App ID and App Name and click on Save button.
Notice that “Contacts” application is added to the policy. Now click on the “Save and Continue” button to reflect the change on the device.
